Hi samuelmetzger
When Mac Pro 7.1 (together a Catalina OS update) were launched last Fall, Apple stated that FCPX and Motion will take advantage of multiGPU Mac computers (due to Metal2). Even though my 2019 iMac 27" has a great Pro Vega 48 I thought that add a second eGPU would be a good idea. I chose an OWC eGPU external chasis (sales) and I bought a Radeon Vega 56. Today I think was a right choice
I have not done before/after tests because of I bought the iMac just when Apple updated FCPX and Catalina. But I can say that FCPX is able to use both internal/external GPU (as you know you can check the eGPU in render/share playback preferences). I don't know the total impact about renders time on your specific computer, but I think that you must also notice a substantial improvement

Find me at least five tutorials in the same quality as you can find on VideoCopilot site.

For example:;
Speed Particles
The Healer
Eye Replacement
Moving 3D Lines
Time Freeze

Do you want high level Motion tutorials? OK, you could begin with Mr Simon Ubsdell tutorials
There are 150 video tutes " for god level " in Motion, enjoy it!

Hi Aswien
I'm very frustrated with pixelfilm plugins. I can confirm that Propatch 3.0 also crash fcpx and auto tracker doesn't work correctly. I'd recommend you plugins from Coremelt, Factory , Motionvfx , perhaps more expensive but in my case they have shown quality, stability and good support
Best and stay safe

IMO I think that with this computer setup you may have difficulty to handle 4K video files. Perhaps with proxies, low resolution, little effects, no composing , etc... you "could use it" . But if you want the superb Metal2 fcpx power you'll need a Mac with both better graphic card and processor.
I'd recommend you have a look to old Mac Pro 5.1 revamped with RX580 and xeon processors. OWC have a lot of them a very nice prices

Doesn't happen.
Flamewars aren't started over comparisons between Premiere, AVID, Vegas or Edius. It's always FCP (also legacy) that triggers them.

Right. I apologize.

Looks like that goal is to sink FCP or Mac&FCP. Lot of forums with ... PCvsMac....PrPr vs FCP... DR vs FCP. I don't know why these things happen. You must learn the tool and try to integrate it in your workflow. If this tool does not work you'll look for other more efficient

Just for curiosity. Are you see differences if you select your internal GPU in playback preferences render/share GPU instead external GPU?

First, a question from a new eGPU user: after hooking up a Blackmagic EGPU to my 2019 15” Macbook Pro,
My point? I’m not sure, but I just wanted to share the joy of discovery. Be well, my fellow FCPX users.
Once updated to Catalina I have also seen an increased FCP performance adding to my iMac 2019 an eGPU ( Sapphire Vega 54 in Helios FX 550) . This is particularly true when color fcp corrections tools are used.

Happy new year! :)
I don't know how to do it correctly in FCPX because I'm a novice user (I come from Premiere and FCP- pre -X era) and it is a little odd to me how audio mixing is conceptualised in FCP . So I prefer exporting audio tracks to Logic and follow the classic DAW mixing style. But all you need is to understand the loudness concepts and how to apply appropriate audio plugins for your media destination.
Perhaps this article by Larry Jordan could be interesting for this question

A lot of people buy PC towers because they allow you to stripe 6-8 hard drives together. The Promise Pegasus MPX module for the Mac Pro is expensive and only allows for 4 hard drives to be used. It suck to have a huge tower like the 2019 Mac Pro and then have to buy and external RAID system but it will probably be the best option.
I think the new Mac Pro are not aimed to host massive internal HD storage. Professional postproduction environment workflow is moving toward internal networks (ie. 10GB ethernet) and external networks (iFrame like) where data files can easily be to-from shared in your workstation on very fast storage subsystem. Perhaps the classical PC tower maxed with HD's, PCIe audio, PCIe video, GPU's, etc will be a thing of past

I'd like to know from CF users what this plugin can offer to this moment. In other words, what am I loosing ?
Let's see:
* FCPX colour tools are amazing and very fast.
* There are already nice mask tracking alternatives (ie SliceX) .
* In the case you need something more sophisticated you can get for just 89 $ a plugin as ColorSynth.
* About LUT's, film emulations, etc.. there are lots of them in all prices ranges
Opinions please!
