I hope that they fix the "inconsistencies" between the color wheel and color curves and the results they produce in rec 709 and rec 2020 that Simon Ubsdell made a video about.
Open System Preferences and Users and Groups.
Create a new admin user. Log out of your user and log on to that users and try from there.
Does Final Cut Pro X still crash in the other user?
This may not be what you asked for but since you have everything on one drive, I would recommend investing in a second hard drive and back up everything (except cache) from your main external hard drive to the second external hard drive.
You can either use Time Machine (free with macOS) and exclude the respective cache folders or invest in a software like Carbon Copy Cloner and set up backup task using it. This way you would not lose everything should your hard drive fail.
I have tested it over the weekend and this is a great update.
The new Studio Strings are sounding good and very easy to program.
Logic is really becoming a complete DAW package, there is not much need for external plugins anymore.
For such a large update this has been very stable so far.
Ok, now I have had time to test and the issue has been fixed in a later version of CamTwist. It show what an eco-system your OS and applications are and the importance of being aware of what you have installed.
Logic owner: Yes, the flatter one are the updated design that they have been moving towards for a while in Logic.
Hopefully they will clear this up soon and only have one version of the plugins instead of different ones depending on how they where added to the project.
Wow, that was fast! Glad it was helpful.
I will download the latest version first to test, maybe it has been fixed in a newer version. Otherwise I'll let them know.
It could take up to 10 tries of relaunching it before it started, but oftentimes it only took one or two tries.
I took a look in the /Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Patches but there was nothing there and then I noticed a folder I hadn't looked in before. I had an old plugin from CamTwist in /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL that I moved out and now it launches properly. Have opened it about 10 times now without any crash. I'll leave my, sometimes, incoherent ramblings here hoping that it may help someone else.
Thanks for all suggestions!
Thanks for your reply and suggestions.
I have been waiting for High Sierra to mature a bit more, maybe worth the test. I just updated the computer from El Capitan to be able to run same version of Motion on my computers. I cannot recall any crashes in the first week or so after updating.
Yes, it is with a blank library. I tried this in a blank, new, admin account with no libraries available and it happened with the default "Untitled" library. I removed the test user and added another one a few times and on some tests it crashed before creating a new library.
Seeing that it is System Wide and occurs after complete reinstallation it could either be, as you say, the it is not compatible with the OS or that I have left something installed in the /Library folder that is causing it.
I have about 120GB free on my 500GB drive so free space should be plenty.
Once I have gotten it to start (by choosing relaunch in the crash dialog) I never experience any crashes so it is just during startup it is vulnerable, so to speak.
Hope I am posting this at the correct place. About 7 times out of 10 my Final Cut Pro X crashes at startup on my 2014 MacBook Pro 15" since updating to 10.4. It works without any issues on my 2017 27" iMac.
Both are running 10.12.6.
I have tried it on another local admin user with a blank library and the same thing happens.
I have run the Final Cut Remover to uninstall both Final Cut and Motion and then reinstalling them form App Store and I have also reinstalled the OS (just a reinstall without erasing first). Other things tried is verifying the disk and also removed all system wide third party audio plugins since I have a few just to remove the as a potential cause.
I used to have mInstaller installed but I have removed it in case it caused it after the upgrade to 10.4.
I have ran out of ideas and I am afraid erasing and reinstalling is the next step, however I have a lot of Applications that would need to be reinstalled and relicensed so this would take a long time.
Does anyone have any suggestion on things to try before erasing and reinstalling?
Either it's a bug that 709 works with the color board and breaks in color wheels and 2020 does the opposite or they have not made clear the intention that you should use the wheels with 2020 and the board with 907. Hopefully this gets addressed soon before people do to much work correcting and it will change later on forcing you to redo your adjustments.
It did not show up on my MBP with El Capitan.
Works on my iMac with Sierra so glad I did not have to update to High Sierra at least.
Go to your home folder. Select all folders and press CMD+i. This will open an info window for each file/folder. Wait for it to calculate the sizes of each folder. When that is done you will see in the top of each folder how much space it takes up.
With this information you can go in to the folders that uses the most space and from there determine if they contain anything you can delete or if you can move anything to an external drive.
You can repeat the step of selecting the folders inside a folder and showing the info to determine which subfolders contain lots of data.
Also, since you use Final Cut you can lookup how to delete render files in your library. Apple has a great article about this. This can help you free up lots of space as well
