I took a trip to Hawaii last October and here is a short film from the footage from that trip. Big thanks to my friend Brendon Costello for bringing his Phantom along and getting some great aerial footage. The other cameras are the Canon t4i, Canon c300, the GoPro Hero 3, as well as the iPhone 6s. Footage was cut in FCP X, color grading in Red Giant's Magic Bullet Looks. Digital light leaks were created with CineFlare Len Whack. Music is the tune Black Toothpaste by High Watermark from The Music Bed. Enjoy!

I was having to edit on the go yesterday and was editing on a little portable Western Digital drive (USB 2 and 5400 RPM). Obviously not the best situation, but it was all I had with me and I needed to pass it off to someone. I was recording a voice over in FCP X and every time the recording failed. It would appear to be recording, but when I would stop, no waveform would generate and nothing I had just recorded was there. I was just getting empty audio clips in the timeline and browser .I realized that the write speed of the drive must be too slow to record a voice over in FCP X. I also tested the drive on my Mac Pro tower with the same results, just to make sure it was the drive. I ended up recording straight to my CPU and it worked fine. Just a heads if you find yourself in a similar situation.

Yes, I export based on roles directly out of FCPX. In the export settings, you can choose to export audio only as separate files. You can choose which roles you want to export from there. I picked that tip up from one of Steve Martin's classes at NAB this year. I had been trying the roundtrip process with fcpxml files once LPX started accepting them, but I never had success. This method is much simpler.

I agree with Ronny. I do all of my J and L cuts in FCP X and I do heavy mixing in LPX.

In smaller projects I get a solid mix in the project using the compressor on my audio clips and the built in EQ. When I am done I make a compound clip and add the adaptive limiter to the final mix and make small tweaks. On bigger projects I have started exporting the audio clips based on their roles and editing in Logic Pro X.

Thanks for the kind words. Since this project was just for fun, no profit was made, I used the tune without permission. I kind of rolled the dice on that one.
