Excellent tutorial, imho. Beyond the cutting the masks and animated the image layers - the idea for enhancing the look by adding additional elements (the map overlay and the foreground shape generator) to the comp are nice creative tips.

I believe there are several transition effects plugins out there that could do the trick but if you have FxFactory installed you can try out Parallax Transition by PremiumFX for free.

I use "0" (zero) for that - easy to remember. It's not a toggle! For "Reset volume (0 dB)" I recommend alt+0 (not used per default).

Axel, I sincerely believe you need to publish an "Annotated Companion Guide to the FCPX Official Manual." "0" and "alt-0" - intuitive.

FWIW, here is the FCPX manual page on how to silence audio from clips or ranges: support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/so...lips-ver717f57b4/mac

This does work if you select all the clips too. Then you can use JKL to play with silenced audio in the browser.

Quite so, as FCPX.guru says alt--s to disable audio skimming is the way to go. The OP mentioned using the JKL keys to review your clips in the browser - alt-s doesn't disable playback audio unless you are skimming.

Someone will correct me if there is a simpler way but you could just select all the clips in the browser and then use the volume slider in the Audio tab in the Inspector panel to reduce the volume, right?

I agree with you dgwvideo - I have a whole bunch of PFS plugins that I used in the past. I believe their support has improved too. I think PFS's bad rap goes back to the issue where they "expropriated" some content from a plugin made by motionVFX for use in their own product. For me, it's just that. The PFS plugins I have all work - just don't want to support them.

Sure, you could reach out to Simon directly if you are stuck with adapting that technique in Motion. He's always been extremely helpful.

I think PixelFilmSudios - there I've spoken the devil's name - has something like that. HOWEVER, the always awesome Simon Ubsdell has a good tutorial on this that should get you there: youtu.be/g8Kvrbx1jgk

Joseph Becker replied to the topic 'mFilmLook or Colorgrade?' in the forum. 8 months ago

I own both of those plugins and happy to offer my opinion. I also own a number of LUT packages that you can use with these plugins. However, as FCPX.guru and others have mentioned, the FCPX built in tools are excellent and powerful and if I need something more or specific I’ll usually export an XML and grade my project in DaVinci Resolve.

All that said, between the two - mFilmLook and CinemaGrade - I prefer mFilmLook. You can produce good results using either plugin but, imho, I think the mFilmLooks UI and the access to more adjustments in the traditional FCPX Inspector panel is a more elegant and robust integration than the interface that CinemaGrade provides. mFilmLook also has a few more bells and whistles like adding flares, distortions, etc. CinemaGrade has grouping and shot to shot matching. If you just want to apply a LUT to your footage either program will do that too - actually don’t need either plugin to do that as FCPX offers that function built-in.

I’ve read reviews that say that CinemGrade is aimed at folks just learning about color grading. I suppose mFilmLook would fit in that category too. Both are relatively quick and easy to use. Again, as others mention, I suggest learning about and getting the hang of FCPX’s built-in color tools - they are pretty powerful. Or download the free version of DaVinci Resolve and experiment with its expansive color tool box. There are a number of tutorials you can find online on grading, color correction or creating “Looks.” There are lots of free ones on YouTube or get cheaply from the always excellent Ripple Training website. You may be pleasantly surprised with what you can produce in a very short time.

Joseph Becker created a new topic ' Issue with Photos and FCPX' in the forum. 8 months ago

I've asked this in the Apple Help forum but I thought I'd ask her as well. In Final Cut Pro X when I try to browse my Photos Library, I can see various albums I have created but there does not seem to be a a way of seeing All Photos - although this is clearly an option according to FCPX documentation. Anyone have any ideas about how to view the entire Photos library in FCPX?
