Anyone know if 10.15.4 fixes this issue?

Looks like I spoke too soon. There are still problems on 10.15.3 for me. The SMB connection would seemingly drop while using FCPX, though it didn't cause a full Finder/system freeze thankfully. Still, back to Mojave for now!

Today I tried out 10.15.3 and so far no issues with SMB shares!

I had a similar problem.

My normal setup is an iMac Pro connected to a Mac Mini server via 10GbE SMB. I tried updating the iMac Pro to Catalina 10.15.2, but while it initially seemed fine, it froze up FCP after playing a clip for only a few seconds. This locked up Finder too, so perhaps it disconnected like you said.

I didn't have much time to troubleshoot so I decided to downgrade back to Mojave. I thought maaaybe updating the Mini Server to Catalina would help, but I have to keep it on Mojave for the moment.

Anyway sorry I don't have a solution, but that's my experience!

I have this same issue using normal mac smb file sharing.

Unfortunately I don't think there's any quick fix. Hopefully it can be resolved in future versions of macOS and/or FCPX!

Apparently Apple improved support for regular spinning disk drives under Mojave, but I haven't risked it on my media drives so far. Anyone have experience running APFS on HDDs?

Mojave seems to work pretty well, except when you are working in a collaborative environment. We have discovered driver issues (for 10GbE to Thunderbolt adapters), inconsistent performance over SMB, indexing issues, and large variations in performance. These issues are typically addressed quickly, either with a driver update from the adapter manufacturers or with a dot (10.14.1) release from Apple.

Ronny, which 10GbE adapters are having issues? I'm using the Sonnet Twin TB3 but haven't updated yet and guess I won't for a while hah.

Roy Pearson replied to the topic '10.4 Slow Import Problem' in the forum. 3 years ago

Good question. I'm getting slow imports with C300 MkII footage, say 20-30 MB/s whereas it used to max out the speed of my hard drives.

Ronny, I think you have the last part backwards. In your example, automatic speed should actually speed up the clip to return to its native duration.

If you look at my example, I'd like to keep the duration of my 10 second clip, but auto speed makes it 10s20f.

Ideally I could just uncheck the rate conform box in the inspector (feedback sent to Apple about this a while back).

Yeah I was just speculating, maybe it's more likely an FCPX bug since the prefs deletion fixed it (for now anyway). Of maybe my iMac does indeed have a hardware problem, guess we'll see how it holds up in the coming weeks.

I actually had this same problem earlier this week. The timeline stopped responding then turned red like your pic. Fortunately a preference reset worked for me though.

I'm also using a new 2017 5k iMac (580 GPU), so I wonder if it's an issue with the AMD GPU drivers. I never had this issue with my 2012 iMac (Nvidia GPU).

I'd like to see video lanes for visual organization, or at least the "Focus on" feature.

A patching option like "Send to lane" would be nice for adding b-roll clips below a title but above primary, for example. Obviously this is very track-like, but much more flexible in my opinion.

OSX 10.11.2 and FCPX 10.2.2, all the latest Apple Pro Video stuff yes.

I can drag directly from Finder OR use Import window, though it doesn't recognize the card structure like other cameras, you have to manually twirl down into CONTENTS > CLIPS001 and select the mxf files (which are not greyed out).

In the FCPX browser it reports the codec as "XAVC Intra 2K/4K"... so maybe it has something to do with a Sony codec/plugin I downloaded in the past? That's my best guess.

Hmm it works for me and I have the same software/OS version. I didn't have to install any extra software. Maybe try dragging in the MXF files directly from Finder?

Are you sure the files are 422? I heard that the Mk II 4444 files don't work in FCPX but I don't have any footage to test.

Roy Pearson replied to the topic 'FCPX 10.2.0 Stability Issues when using titles' in the forum. 5 years ago

I've had some crashing issues with basic titles on a late 2012 iMac, but like Dmitri the problem has been around long before 10.2. Typically I just restart FCP and then it works fine. Hard to say exactly what triggers the problem, but I think using the mouse to reposition text in the viewer is often a culprit.

Yes you could utilize the Event Viewer for this and turn on its scopes under the Window menu. This would work best if you were grading within the Multicam clip, otherwise the Event Viewer won't reflect your work. But for your situation it seems like this will work fine.
