Something I discovered when having the problem of "leave files in place" being grayed out is that the folder where my files are located (on my SSD), had the incorrect permissions. It had read only for some reason and when I changed it to read/write, I could then leave files in place.

Hope this helps anyone else searching for related solutions.

Indeed.
I like how there are multiple ways of achieving a result in FCPX.

Well, I mistakenly applied my ratings to source clips in the library, and then converted those rated clips to compound clips. Once this was done, the ratings were removed from the compound clip. I should have made the compound clips in the library and THEN applied ratings.

I want to be able to select my "favorite" rated ranges for insertion into timeline. I can only do that with the original source video which contains my in-camera audio. Only my compound clips have the good audio from my off-camera audio recorder.

Anyway, I gave up looking for a solution and manually did a re-do of all the ratings. (my clips are 20 minute long interviews and only 2 or 3 minutes are going to be used from each clip)

I think I may have communicated my intent ambiguously. I would like to be able to copy/paste the IN and OUT points of a range in the library or timeline. So Cmd-C would copy the timecode on both ends, ready to paste. Not a big deal, but maybe something to put in FCP's suggestion box.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for clarifying, that makes sense.
Would be great to find a plugin to copy paste ranges of timecode.

Hi - I'm using FCP 10.3 and I rated a few clips as favorite and rejected, then married the good audio to the video and made compound clips. The ratings I applied are gone once the compound clip is created (or a synced clip for that matter).

Is there a way to retain my ratings from my original library source media, after converting to compound clips?
Or maybe a way to copy/paste the ratings from one to the other?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Okay, I feel a bit foolish. This is user error; isn't that usually the case?

The "missing" is referring to the audio, as I had unchecked the audio in the channel configuration. Did this because I'm using audio from a recorder and not the camera reference audio. I suppose I should have just lowered the audio level to minimum in lieu of unchecking. So this issue is a case of tired brain.

However I still have the connected audio waveform being incorrect in the timeline, library, and audio inspector. Any ideas about this?

Thanks VidGreg. Definitely did not touch files in Finder, all done in FCP.

A backup fcpbundle from a couple days ago does show the clip names correctly and unfortunately I have done a lot in two days. Yes, also have my work backed up via RAID1.

Another strange thing I just noticed this morning is that the audio file manually connected to my video clip is showing the waveform from an older version of the audio file. It's obvious because the original audio file was the wrong version and so I replaced the file in Finder (overwriting the original) and then did a relink in fcp. Somehow the waveform is reverting to the old file, yet the audio itself is correct.

This wonkyness scares me in mid project.
Am going to reset prefs as you suggested.

I have searched for this answer but alas, here I am.

Ver 10.1.3

Am editing a multicam clip and renamed the clips in the event mid edit. Now I'm getting a "(missing)" at the end of each clip name in the timeline. The names are reflecting the updated names, but with the added MISSING in parentheses.

If I check to relink files it shows nothing missing, but I relinked anyway. No change.
Everything seems to be playing back fine, but what's the deal with the missing annotation? Is this indicative of a deeper issue that may affect me at final export?

Thanks.
