After the 10.9.2 update
my Radeon 7950 Mac version only shows a black screen and seems to be hanging on bootup.
IF I put in my old stock card (the Nvidia GT120) in slot 1 the machine WILL bootup and display through it only. I still have the 7950 in slot 1 and my 'System Report' shows that the 7950 is seen. Though this works for now I'd rather only 1 GPU for heat & electric bill reasons.
I've tried lot's of things these last boring 2 days... such as Pram zaps, permissions, fsck, etc..
Maybe Apple updated the driver but it's not working here? Hopefully this is an easy fix by Apple and is a sign that they improved on the 9750 driver etc...
I started a thread here and it seems others are having this black screen with the 10.9.2 update as well:
I have also talked to Apple Support.. no fix yet but will report as things develop. \
BTW, have any of you also had this problem?
"when you boot and look in system profiler at "About This Mac" is the 7950 id'd as "AMD Radeon 7xxx" or "AMD Radeon 7950"?
I just recreated your problem, quite repeatable, but only when the rom switch is in PC position, ie booting via self initing drivers.
If in the EFI position, it works fine. I have a 24" Apple LED and a 27" Apple LED running 10.9.2.
It is bad enough in PC position that just connecting the Apple Display causes machine to crash and reboot."
Yea, my 7950 switch is in the wrong position too!
(You'd of thunk that the Radeon 'Mac version' would come with the switch in the correct position...
and that if it worked in 10.9.1 then all was fine.
Many thanks DPart!!!"
