Yes, an issue being looked in to. You may also notice on iOS devices, if you are sending messages to yourself, that you end up with two of each message; the one you sent, and the one you recieve. I think we will simply call that a "fail safe" operation. LOL
But it is a lot of fun. Who knows, some one here may actually find a productive use for it. The potential is there. Not to mention the other AppleScript and Python scripts one could create and trigger off in this manner. Some very interesting possible automated workflows come to mind with this ability.
I mean, you could create a custom Destination that will trigger one of these custom apps by default. Such as we used to do in Final Cut Server. Trigger emails, file transfers to FTP sites, all sorts of things that can save us a lot of time. Who knows? It got a lot of use in FCSvr.
Great solution! Thanks! I've updated the blog and the cheat download to reflect this. Good work!
Thanks for the front page posting. "We" really appreciate it.
I personally have not tried it with YouTube, Vimeo, FB, etc. That is a great question, though! I never upload stuff to those services via FCPX, so I really don't have the accounts to do it with. I would assume you get the message when the actual file is written. My understanding is that the "upload" part of the operation is a built-in "Action" in Compressor's engine. In Compressor if you create a custom preset, you have an option to create Actions to take place automatically after the encoding process is finished. That Action, from what I understand, is a whole separate operation.
That said, I'd love for someone to test it and let us know for sure at what point do you get the text message. When the encode is done and before the upload is completed, or after the upload is completed?
You'd probably have to write a Python script, or spend time with a much more complex AppleScript. But hopefully, if enough people request it from the FCP feedback page, it could be an built-in option some day.
Well, I don't see how I can get such a notification via email after all.
If had the on screen for a long time. I was hoping to set up getting a text for when away from the computer. Email would be ok too but I don't see how to do it.
