When distorting an image in final cut, the image doesn't distort. See the attachment for an example.

No matter how I try to distort it, the image always becomes boxy like that.

A couple things...
1. I am on an iMac
2. The image itself is RGP, jpeg, 85 kb
3. The FCP version is 10.4.8
4. My mac iOS is on Catalina 10.15.4

When you have a digital image, it normally has a particular ratio of its horizontal size to its vertical size known as the aspect ratio. Certain formats of images have particular standard ratios DGCustomerFirst

You are very zoomed in, so you're enlarging the image a lot in the Viewer, which can cause aliasing (jaggies). That's normal. You shouldn't see that when you playback or export. You can go to the Viewer menu (top right of Viewer) and change from Better Playback to Better Quality and see if that helps. Also, what is the size of your original image there?

So is there any way of preventing this?

Sometimes this happens to images, sometimes it doesn't. There are times I can distort an image with ease then I make a copy of said distorted image and it gets weird like the image I previously attached.

It is happening during export, which is strange. When I zoom out, the image is still incorrectly distorted.

That particular image is 89 kb.
