Ever since I can remember whatever plugin or text generator I use I always have the font panel pop up covering half the screen in FCPX (image 1)

I've just looked at some of Leno's recent titles and in his preview video the font pop up is very thin and I assume just how it should be.(image2)

Anyone else have a font panel that covers half the UI when selecting and is there a way to get it to be like in image 2?

Thanks for the link but it has nothing to do with my question.

I'd try it, could be a fix for your issue, also.

the width of that panel is defined by the longest name in your list of installed fonts.
Those font-names can be long, or are corrupted, mimicking a long name.

So, letting Font Book 'validate' your fonts is a good start to get rid of that problem …

It wasn't on this occasion but it did free up some fonts

Validation was one part that kind of helped but your point about the width of the font names was the actual cause so thanks for that here was the main culprit some random font I had installed which spanned the whole width.

If FCPX would/could use Font Book collections it would be nice.
