Hi Boris,

Do you have the Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X installed in your system?
www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/hom...eos-c300?tab=drivers

I don't have it installed and I could import the test files I linked to in my previous post without a problem.

Maybe you are running into some kind of conflict with the Canon plugin... Have you tried uninstalling that instead?

Good luck!

Here's a little video to demonstrate how my FCPX setup, running a 6 core Mac Pro with all the latest plugin and software versions, still does not allow me to import 10 bit footage from the Canon C300 Mark ii.

Anyone that can help me solve this little mystery will be an instant legend.

No joy, I've removed all the Canon software/plugins. I've reinstalled FCPX. No idea what else to try. Clean install of El Capitan and add the apps one by one perhaps...

Still no import for C300 Mark 2 footage. It's weird. When I attempt to import, the files appear momentarily viable but then ghost out to gray and cannot be imported.

And just upgraded Pro Codes and FCPX--and installed the Canon plugin today, too.

Any thoughts?

you need to install the Canon XF Utility 2.1 for XF-AVC for this to work (for the regular C300, it was a plugin). Look at their support site. Remember, even though FCPX has native support for MXF, if you don't use this plugin, you will not get your clip spanned and rewrapped with the proper metadata applied. On the C300, for example, if you roll longer than around 5 minutes, it will create another MXF segment (so each segment is limited to about 2 GB).

Also something to check is that you need the correct file structure for it to recognize it as if it was on a card. This is a common problem when there's no proper DIT, and some random person copies the cards onto a drive badly. You should be able to reconstruct the file structure if it wasn't done right.

Thanks for the input. But yes, I had just installed the utility today (before the update) and no dice. Installed again after the update--and still doesn't import. X can read the file structure but the actual clips turns from white to gray and cannot be imported. Very odd.

Ha! I just installed the update and it still doesn't recognize the XF-AVC file structure for me, so I have to dig down into the 'Clips' folder at which point the MXF files all turn grey and are not importable. I suspect it's something to do with my system, which I migrated from my old mac so I think it's time to do a clean install of El Capitan and add things one by one.

Nice to know someone else has exactly the problem. Please let me know if you find a solution but as I said below, I think it's time for a clean install of everything.

Did any of you guys try reformatting the cards from within the camera or checking for updates for the camera?

I've never used a Canon C series, but with certain Sony cameras/formats the cameras had to have a firmware update and then the cards had to be reformatted with the camera (not a computer) before FCPX would see the files to import.

(remember that reformatting a card completely erases it)

also, sometimes if there are multiple formats on one card, FCPX will only see/import one.

According to Apple:
https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT205764

You need Canon Plug-in 3.1 for Final Cut Pro X, and they gave us the link but the plug-in cannot be found.

Wow, so they DID just release that plugin today. I had assumed it was somehow encapsulated in the XF Utility, but nope, it's the same as the C300 case. It's a plugin, and it's updated to v. 3.1.

Phew. It wasn't my system--it was the Canon plug in. Turns out they didn't update it until today. With the new v 3.1 plug, all good.

Interestingly, I had emailed apple/FCPX about this issue and got a quick reply directing me to the proper support page. Pretty cool, Apple FCPX team.

And thanks for the forum help. :cheer:

I know this is about the C300, but has anyone had experience with the Canon C-100 MkII? Does FCPX import that stuff alright?

Also, screener, if you could post the URL for that plugin, that'd be a big help.

Here's the URL for the driver you need for the XF AVC format:

Amazing! They took their time, but like doing a long number 2, the huge sense of relief is worth it :-)

Thanks for posting the URL and contacting Apple, I would have spent a couple of days reinstalling my whole system so I really appreciate it!

Have you tested it yet with 12 bit 444?
