We are going to have to hide our credit cards this morning. Apple have just posted the Promise Pegasus R6 12 & 6TB drives on the Apple Store. That 'Add to Basket' button is saying 'click me.'

Apple have posted the Promise Thunderbolt drives on the UK Apple Store this morning. Amazing to think that you can get 12 terabytes of very fast storage for just £1,400. Looks like the old XServeRaid will have to go on EBay.

Highlights

  • 12TB of raw capacity (9.7TB configured RAID 5 and formatted with HFS+)
  • Advanced RAID engine
  • Supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 50, 6 and 10
  • Attractive, stylish, and compact enclosure
  • Ultra-quiet design
  • Two Thunderbolt ports
  • Hot-swappable bays for effortless drive access and serviceability
  • Robust error handling provides superior data protection

Not only that but you have to buy a Thunderbolt cable as we believe Apple has a six month exclusivity deal on the connector.

Should you want to use one of these drives you just might need to run an update:

"Mac OS X 10.6.8 is required and the latest firmware updates on iMac (Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.0) and MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.1)  are required for the PROMISE Pegasus RAID storage systems to work"
