With all the anticipation and news surrounding the announcement of FCPX, some of the other news got a little overshadowed. At NAB G-Technology announced that later this year they will launch drives with Thunderbolt ports.
We had known about LaCie and Promise from the videos when Thunderbolt was first demoed on the new MacBookPros. Now G-Technology, or G-Tech has formally announced that it is going to follow those manufacturers by incorporating Thunderbolt into new products. G-Tech, now owned by Hitachi has had a long history in supplying drives for media. The company was started by Roger Mabon who left Medea when it was purchased by Avid. In fact I think we have an old Medea RAID sitting in a box here at FCP towers from the days when they were Apple's preferred choice of capture scratch drives.
Here is the press release from G-Technology, we will certainly be looking out for the Thunderbolt models' launch.
