When working with 4K footage, and exporting as 1080p or 720p, and using Send to Compressor, do I want to keep the timeline in FCPX 4K when having Compressor downrez, or do I set my FCPX timeline to my intended 1080p or 720p? I was not sure what to use to take full advantage of the scaling settings in Compressor.
Either works, but personally I edit in a Timeline the frame size and rate that I have to deliver in. I'll shoot 4K, but edit in 1080 for broadcast. This also gives me the advantage of doing close-ups and such without losing resolution. Not sure editing in 4K then exporting as 1080 has any real-world advantage over my current workflow. I used to do this but stopped, as I didn't see any value to it.
I am just not sure if the timeline has any effect on the resizing controls in Compressor, as FCPX itself has no resizing controls, so was unsure if resizing in the timeline nulls the resizing in Compressor. I am thinking along the lines of how the order of effects in FCPX can make a difference in quality.
