Interoperability & Flashy Looks in DaVinci Resolve 8.1
Version 8.1 of DaVinci Resolve for Mac is here: and interoperability is its' focus with support for Final Cut Pro X. Blackmagic Design has released 7 feature-rich updates to DaVinci Resolve in the last 7 months. Colorist and author Alexis Van Hurkman discusses the newest interoperability workflows made possible by their latest update, DaVinci Resolve 8.1, which adds round-trip support for Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, and Final Cut Pro X. Hurkman goes on to demonstrate the many creative grading possibilities enabled by version 8.1's incorporation of composite modes inside of corrections.

AVID invites special guest ANDREW WEISBLUM, A.C.E. on stage at the Boston SuperMeet to share his editorial workflow on BLACK SWAN. Weisblum was also editor on THE WRESTLER, and supervising editor on FANTASTIC MR. FOX, among other credits.

ANDREW WEISBLUM, A.C.E. was nominated this year for an Academy Award® for Best Film Editing for BLACK SWAN. His work on that film was also recognized with BAFTA and ACE Eddie award nominations as well as recognition from multiple film critics associations, including the award for best film editing of the year from the Boston Society of Film Critics. He previously collaborated with Darren Aronofsky on THE WRESTLER.· More recently, he edited the Oscar® nominated FANTASTIC MR. FOX for Wes Anderson for which he earned a Best Edited Animated Feature ACE Eddie nomination.· Weisblum also edited THE DARJEELING LIMITED with Anderson and BROKEN ENGLISH for Zoe Cassavetes. He is currently editing MOONRISE KINGDOM for Anderson as well.
Weisblum was an additional editor on Nora Ephron’s BEWITCHED as well as John Waters' A DIRTY SHAME.· He served as the Visual Effects Editor on Aronofsky’s THE FOUNTAIN and Rob Marshall’s CHICAGO, which earned Academy Awards® for Best Editing and Best Picture, as well as the 2003 Eddie Award for Best Edited Musical/Comedy.· He also cut the independent films UNDERMIND and CONEY ISLAND BABY.
As an assistant editor for more than a decade, Weisblum worked on a wide variety of films ranging from independent features, including John Waters' CECIL B. DEMENTED and Allison Anders' GRACE OF MY HEART, to larger scale productions such as Brian De Palma's SNAKE EYES and FEMME FATALE, and Richard Linklater's SCHOOL OF ROCK.
