If you have wanted a bit more flexibility for onscreen counters in FCPX than the Motion wrapped counter generator will do, Digital Heaven have an answer. They have just released DH_CounterX for Final Cut Pro X and Motion5
It is not really until you need to overlay a counter onto video do you realise actually how difficult it can be. Sure you can use the one from Motion by publishing the parameters into FCPX, but it's not the most flexible of things.
Plugin and application company Digital Heaven have released a $29.99 generator plugin called DH_CounterX which does exactly what it says on the tin, it counts. There is a 30% discount off the plugin if you buy within the next 30 hours. (Which works out at about Friday night.) A free watermarked trial is also available.
The video won't load a poster frame, so just click the play button!
Choice of over 100 standard Mac fonts.*
SS, MM:SS or HH:MM:SS display formats.
Show or hide leading zeros.
Count up/down to/from custom time.
Show subseconds as frames, tenths or hundredths of a second.
Optional shadow and outline styles with adjustable color, opacity, softness and width.
Optional box background with adjustable color, opacity, stroke, size and position.
Static display mode for creating start or end holds.
* Due to current limitations between FxPlug plug-ins and Final Cut Pro X, DH_CounterX uses a fixed list of standard fonts which are installed by default with OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8. Custom installed fonts will not be usable by DH_CounterX.
if you are looking for a counter to run in Final Cut Pro 7, then take a look at Digital Heaven's original DH_Counter.
One last thought, can you retime a generator? It might be an easier way of building a pause in the count.
