Heading to NAB in Las Vegas and want to know where all the Final Cut Pro X action is taking place? Sam Mestman has put this guide together so you'll know when and where to be to get the best from your trip.
Hey guys, Sam here. If you’re an FCPX fan who’s headed to NAB this year, just wanted to give you a quick guide on where to find the FCPX community and Apple representatives at NAB this year if you’re coming.
First, the number one place you’re going to want to go is FCP Exchange on Monday. April 9th from 5-6:30pm in FMC’s Post Production World area at the Las Vegas Convention Center room S219.
It’s free and open to the public and Apple Product Marketing will be doing an official presentation (never to be missed) along with Ripple Training, Jaunt VR, Atomos, and the director and editor of the music video Despacito, the most watched YouTube video of all time.
Immediately following that, you’re going to want to head to The Guru Gathering, which is basically the FCPX Community’s annual NAB party. You’ll want to get your ticket to that ASAP as spots are limited and it sells out every year.
As well as the FCPExchange meeting, Apple are moderating a Keynote as part of Post Production World at 10.30am on Wednesday April 11th - also in room S219. This will feature a more expansive chat with the Despacito filmmakers and there might be an extra surprise guest as well…
If you want to informally talk to the FCPX team, Apple Product marketing will be hanging out in the LumaForge Workflow Suite from 4-6pm on Wednesday. Also, members of the FCPX community will be there throughout NAB including myself, Ronny Courtens, Richard Taylor, Chris Fenwick, Bill Davis, Brad Olsen, Tony Gallardo, Josh Beal, and just about everyone else you can think of will be hanging out. (Nearly everyone - Editor)
Pro Tip: there will also be chairs there, so if you’re looking for a place to rest off the show floor where you can also see FCPX in a collaborative environment, this is your spot throughout NAB. Also, if you come to the Workflow Suite, we’ll tell you where the Faster, Together party will be Wednesday night.
If you’re looking for FCPX-centric TED Talk style presentations, the official Faster, Together lineup has mostly been announced and there’s going to be a bunch you’ll want to pay attention to including me giving a straightforward approach to color in FCPX, Steve Martin being Steve Martin, Ronny Courtens being Ronny Courtens, Josh Beal talking FCPX in Hollywood, Chris Fenwick on FCPX-After Effects workflow, Brad Olsen on the FCPX Documentary Off The Tracks Workflow, Raibar Chener with FCPX-Logic-Izotope Workflow, as well as the product presentations from Intelligent Assistance, Coremelt, Atomos and Vimeo that should all be FCPX-centric… and thats just a few of the presentations. You can see the full lineup at fastertogether.com.
Also, don’t forget the Supermeet Tuesday Night which has been a must attend for the Final Cut Pro community for years
More than ever before, FCPX will be making its way onto the show floor at NAB if you know where to look. Hope to see as many of you as I can there!
