Big fat fcpx update

So much news in under a week. Within a thirty minute window starting at 8:30 GMT on Thursday the 19th of December, Apple updated FCPX, Motion & Compressor and also released the new Mac Pro to the world.

Where were you when the 10.1 update happened? We were in a coffee shop just about to see the new Mac Pro play back 16 angles of RED 4K footage in a multicam clip. It has been chaotic ever since. We thought that we would put together a roundup of the best news and information about the much awaited Final Cut Pro X update.

Before we start, Apple also published numerous Knowledge Base articles, White Papers and new Help Pages on the 19th which are worth reading. If you get bored over Christmas, this list should keep you going!

On to compatibility and there has been a surprisingly low amount of posts and comments about the update breaking things.

Sony's 1.2 driver for SxS cards and XDCAM/XDCAM EX format now shows support for FCP 10.1

Red Giant are reporting that Mojo and Bulletproof 'are looking good' but Plural Eyes 3 and Magic Bullet Looks may be affected.

Simon at MotionVFX has reported a problem with templates that use the Wriggle/Rotation behaviour.

(lets us know if there are any other problems and we will add then to the list)

On to training and as you would expect, all the usual suspects (and more) have updated their training to reflect the 10.1 update.

Ripple Training have a brand new set of 10.1 tutorials, a whopping 42 individual lessons totalling 6 hours. Apple Pro Video Series - Final Cut Pro X - Third Edition sells for $49 from the Ripple website.

'Unlike many training companies that "patch" their tutorials with a mix of old and new UI components, team Ripple built the entire tutorial using Final Cut Pro 10.1 and included a full hour of additional training material not included in the previous editions.

Whether you are new to digital video editing or transitioning from another editing application, our goal is to give you a solid foundation from which to build your visual storytelling skills.'

They have also published 3 free tutorials on upgrading to Final Cut 10.1  -  We have put them all into a playlist

They have also published seven videos on specific features in excerpts from the training, we have also put those into a playlist.

FCP veteran Larry Jordan has also gone back to the drawing board and completely redone his FCPX training videos. He markets his $99 Final Cut Pro X 10.1 Workflow & Editing series as 'The best and most complete video training covering Final Cut Pro X'

We have put together 15 of his free video extracts from his training into a playlist.

Legacy FCP designer Micheal Wohl has produced a new 10.1 training course through MacProVideo. 9 individual modules work out at $19.50 each or the whole course comes in discounted down to $87.85.

We have put together his demo videos into a playlist as well. (There's a lot of them)

So there you go, a big fat list of items from the Final Cut Pro X 10.1 update. All that's left is for us to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We will be back with more Mac Pro results post turkey....
