Create a POINT type Emitter effects on the fly, directly in FCPX. For those FCPX editors that, for whatever reason, do not use Motion, or if you just do not want to round trip a clip into Motion for this effect, but would like to be able to use this effect more quickly inside FCPX itself…this is for you.
There are many more creative effects that can be done with emitters within Motion itself. This effect does NOT presume all of the possibilities available in using Emitters. However, it does bring the ability to create some Emitter effects…into FCPX without having to leave the application.
This is a TITLE effect. It can be placed above your timeline clip, or above multiple clips that are composited and it will flow into all of the composited clips below it.
There are many Emitter Effect parameters included with this plugin. The best way to discover what all the parameters can do, (if you are NOT familiar with Emitter parameters) is to just play with them (or better yet, google Motion 5 Emitter Parameters to read up on how these various parameters work). Many of these parameters work in tandem together, so it is important to understand how they all work together, (assuming you are not familiar with these) to get the full benefit.
To animate this emitter around the screen, use the first two, OSC X and OSC Y parameters by keyframing them. After setting this title above your clip, set the playhead where animation is to start, and place the OSC(on screen control) at the position the animation is to start on screen, then set a key frame on these two OSC X and Y parameters. Then move the playhead above where you want animation to end in the timeline, and then move the OSC on screen to the position you want it to end on the screen. Set ending key frames once you have re-positioned the playhead to the end and moved the OSC to the place on screen for it to end. PLEASE NOTE: I have also included a choice of BEGIN and END Oscillators to add flair to the start and end points. If you choose to turn these on, then adjust the begin and end key framing of the OSC X and Y to allow for the extra time these take.
I have included a dropdown of some standard shapes that can be used as the Emitter Cell(the shape to be replicated, such as flare, stars, hearts, flowers, etc.etc.). But also included in this list, is a choice to use a DropZone. To use this DROPZONE, create your own shape in a graphics/paint program that includes an Alpha channel(transparent background), with a .png file extension. Then drop this .png file into that drop zone, and then set size of this DZ graphic.
AGAIN, If you are not familiar with all the parameters of Emitters, just google motion 5 emitters. Lots of help there.
This is part one, which is just the POINT Emitter type. I am working on bringing separate plugins for other Emitter types, i.e. Line, Rectangle, Circle, etc.
Here are some more playful examples of what can be done with this Point Emitter plugin in FCPX. (Key to having emitter come in, then drawing a straight line, then having emitter kick in again at end of straight line is…key frame the Emitter and Cell Speed parameters to 0, for straight line. Then keyframe these with a number at end of line for it to spread out again.)
