I'm a happy owner of an 2017 iMac for my Video and Photography work. For Budget reasons I have chosen the 500GB-SSD as the internal drive. Now I intend to add some kind of external SSD-Storage that serves as a media hub mainly for my Photo- and Music-Libraries (and maybe some smaller FCPX-Libraries). But so far I haven't found a product that convinced me.
What I'm looking for is some kind of Thunderbolt 3 device that can take two (replaceable) 2.5" SSD-Drives and run them in RAID1-mode. This device will mostly be attached to the iMac but should be accessible from my MacBook too. Something like the LaCie 2Big Dock, but I'd prefer a smaller solution for 2.5" Drives (that can be bought as a spare enclosure). Anyone know if there's something like that on the market? And how important is a Hardware RAID-Controller If the device has to be accessible from different computers?
Any advice is highly appreciated.
