Hi Everyone.

I like the "colour keep" effect in some point and shoot cameras and bought some effects for iMovie6 some years ago which included this effect. I now use FCPX and read online about
TKY Selective Color but it has been withdrawn.
Does anyone know where I can download it or buy it ( or similar ) if available please.

No clue what that effect is. Can you link to a sample?

Thanks. The TKY Selective Color ( effect ) was around in Feb this year.
This is an effect that enables you to isolate a particular color and have the rest/background in B+W for example.
Cannot find an example right now.

Ah, the Plesantville effect (as that movie was the first to really exploit it). Very easy to do. In fact, you don't need an effect to do this. Check out lesson 15 here.

Or the user manual on this.

Or another famous example is the girl in the red coat from Schindler's List.

Just saw it yesterday in Vincent Laforet's new Mountain Dew commercial, which I don't particularly care for...

Thanks for the replies.

I will follow the tutorials but hoped for a simple, easy to use plugin as it would mean someone else has done all the hard work....
I use many of the free plugins from this site including the ones from TKY.

The effect being done manually is so simple, its stupid simple. Learn to do it yourself, have more control, be more creative. The more you rely on plugins, the more your work will look like everyone else's.

Thank you so much Simon for reposting the effect.

I am not complaining but sadly I have tried it in FCPX 10.05 on two Macs and this ( and TKY Carousel, TKY Strobe Effect plus TKY Carousel Generator e.g. ) come up with the red and yellow warning image over the preview/main window, when hovering over the effect, the same as when the footage has been moved/deleted from it's original position. The other and older 28 TKY effects and 3 generators I have all work. Perhaps effects made/updated with the recent new Motion are no longer backwards compatible.

FYO:
Three months ago I did a fresh Mountain Lion install on an empty new HDD on my main Mac. On updating to FCPX 10.06 it simply crashed if I tried anything. Other subtle OSX functionality was missing too but nothing drastic, e.g. not mirroring options in the menu bar for displays.
My other Mac had fully updated Snow Leopard which I installed Mountain over. I just installed FCPX 10.06 and it works fine as far as I can see. The new TKY effects along with the old ones all work too.
It seems you have to install Mountain over Snow or Lion unless you have a new Mac with Mountain pre-installed. Luckily I have a new solid state drive in the post so will have to install both OSX etc. then try FCPX 10.06 and give it a go.

Finally, I am not a pro and make films ( and music with Logic ) just for fun so I like to be spontaneous and just make a short, fun film and music etc asap. For this reason I never studied Final Cut or Logic and that is why the free plugins are so useful to me. It's also fun to have to find a way to make an idea happen on the fly and this way of working hopefully makes my work different. I do have complete respect for the years of study and experience of video professionals who have to reliably complete every job to a deadline.

To easily do without plug-in:
1. Duplicate the footage so you have one on top of the other.
2. On the top layer, Key out the color you'd like to isolate. (use hard Masks if you have floating bits of that same color elsewhere in the frame that you'd not like to isolate.)
3. Invert the Key effect.
4. On the bottom layer, in Color Correction, Desaturate down to your desired level.
5. Enjoy!
You can make the effect more pronounced by increasing the Saturation and bending the Color Corrector on the Top layer. eg. If you want to isolate only red, drag the highlights and mids up to the Red.

This trailer is disgusting. I don't get offended easily. This one? There are no words.
