Hi,

I've made an effect for FCPX that simulates a classic SLR viewfinder.
You can keyframe the focus and exposure sliders, give the needle some random fluctuation and when you activate the build out checkbox you get a flipping mirror at the end.
I'm still looking for a possibility to link the exposure needle rotation parameter to the average brightness of the underlying video, but I haven't found a way to do that yet.
There is an image unit in motion 5 that is called "Area Average" but it doesn't do what I'd expect based on its name.
So, if anyone has a clue, please let me know.

Regards
Robbert-Jan van der Does

Sorry,
something went wrong with the upload of the zip file.
Just before I could read the error message I clicked away.
I'll try again

Ah, it refused because of the file size.

Well, you can also download it from Creative Cow

Robbert-Jan,

Can you try again? I've upped the file size for images and files

Thanks

Peter

Brilliant, I managed to do it too after upping the limit.

Could you post some screengrabs too? I'm curious to see how that all works as well.

Thanks again

Peter

Hi Peter,

I just tried to upload an image but I didn't succeed.
Can I just upload the PNG (I tried to upload them to my iDisk and then I copied the share link into my message, but that only showed a non-clickable URL)
I'm probably doing something wrong here.

Found it!

Thanks for this Robert! I love it. Just did my first test with FCPX and was happy to incorporate the viewfinder you made. Here's the link - vimeo.com/27267492

Glad you like the video Labalbi. The blackout is part of the effect. It simulates the mirror blackout of the SLR and is inserted anytime you make a cut.

Thanks for watching.

Hi,

This effect is great!
But how do I install it? or get it into FCP X?
Do I have to use Motion 5 or an unzip program?

Best regards
Alex

Hi,
You can use the effect in all versions of FCPX. It will not work in older versions like FCP7 and earlier.

Cheers,
Robbert-Jan
