Stupid MotionFX Plug in not working what a rip off. 20 Jul 2019 19:21 #100503

So I bought MotionFX MFeatures for FCPX 10.3
It didnt work. Made Sure OS is working properly.
I then updated downloadd a new version of FCPX to make sure I was running 10.4 FCPX
Still not working.
So surely they dont make plug ins for one specific build of FCPX only... what a total con.
10.4.6 who is even using that... only noticed small print AFTER I had paid the £69 because there was no demo version.

I would expect most people are using version 10.4.6 of FCPX. That is the latest version and pretty stable for a while now. Also, there have been many improvements and fixes since FCPX 10.4. MotionVFX is a pretty reputable plugin maker and their templates and plugins clearly identify system requirements. Newer versions of FCPX offer newer capabilities occasionally and plugins are often created to take advantage of those newer features (which is why they don't always function on earlier versions). Updating FCPX to 10.4.6 should allow the plugin to work.
Creating history....one edit at a time !

Also, check with mInstaller that you have it registered properly. I've seen this happen when the registration goes out of wack. I've fought that bug at least four times in the past several months.

Yeh well they should make it clearer, I spent most of the day working it out.

Especially when they make it clear that refunds for digital products are not applicable when they are. So they are selective and its annoying. I have 10.4 - I don't update every week incase something breaks.

If they refund me and I can buy it again when I do 10.4.something then fine but if they don't then its not good. Yes I know they are a big company. I was posting for a work round.

Hello Guru - yep checked all that stuff brother, how are you? That Samsung SSD is amazing omg talk about an improvement to my workflow thanks for that - that is a life changer so small too.

Don't suppose you know any alternative cool looking Features type / bullet points/ cool call outs that don't look like word art or too corporate? I have most of Pixel FIlm stuff - most of it cheesy alot of older Motion VFX but looking for a cool plug in to do ... Best Bits -- Worst Bits -

I also read the BBC newsdesk use 10.4 which is nice to know.

Well, MotionVFX is like any other developer, they can't afford to have legacy products. They all develop for the latest version out. Most of use are using the latest version of FCPX out there. At least some version of 10.4 because of the features it brings that speed up and simplifies our workflow. Most of those companies are very small, on a two or a few people working for them. They are not huge and don't have the capacity to keep huge archives of legacy products. That's just too much to support, realistically, for those very small companies.

Personally, I can't stand PixelFilmStudios, I won't touch anything they make. No one has the quality of MotionVFX, and you get what you pay for. That said, there are some other great companies around. CrumplePop, Stupid Raisins, Ripple Training, CoreMelt.

You can have more than one version of FC on your disc. I have vers 10.4.4, 10.3.4, 10.4.5, and some others scattered about. Dupe the app or compress it before updating so it doesn't vanish on you.

Each project gets its own library with files kept outside of library. Dupe the project before opening with a newer version so you can always go back to the version of FCP that created it if the newer version botches it. And if you DO use the new version you can export an XML file the can be opened with a previous version.

That said, I'd update FC to the version that uses the plugin you bought and after you have the project where you want it, sans plugin, in the version you're using... Open either the exported XML or a dupe project (it will update the project after which you won't be able to go back using the older version that created it) and finish it off using the latest version.

This is the reason I keep so many different versions about. Sometimes plugins (Color Finale Pro comes to mind) wonk out and can't be used with a recent version of FC until Denver Riddle updates the plugin.
