Hi everyone!

Yes, I know how to do a quick split screen with the trim and crop tools. That won't be my question ;)
What I want is to have more creative freedom while adjusting the scale and rotation of the different screen sectors. However, each time I adjust these in one of the three sectors they start to overlap onto another, destroying the split screen ratio relationship I want to conserve. Going back and forth all the time so as to keep that relationship going is a terrible waste of time and so not an option for me.
Is there a way of making the three sectors completely independent of one another?
I've tried going about this in many ways, using masks, using compound clips, using different opacity layers but most methods either don't work or are too cumbersome, thus going against the creative process and time investment.
I bought a pixelfilmstudio plugin online that seemed to solve my issue but unfortunately it doesn't. It features zones where you can "drop" video clips into sectors but that's also very impractical in its own way, especially for ex. if I want to quickly change, adjust the in and out points of clips :(

Basically I want to have my transform changes be independent of the crop/trim functions for three independent screen sections. How should I go about this?

Also, maybe FCPX is not the tool for the job? Should I look at Motion or After effects? Or maybe Davinci / Avid?

Hope to hear back from some experts and kind greetings! :D

There are many other good Split Screen plugins that will allow you more flexibility with individual sections, but you can easily create your own by treating each one as a separate clip stacked above one another on the timeline. For example - left section on the bottom, middle section stacked above, and right section stacked above middle. Then you can use cropping and transform tools in FCPX to align each clip (section) independently however you need, as well as applying separate effects, transitions, color, etc.
Creating history....one edit at a time !

I used Hawaiki AutoSplit on a project and it worked OK. Support was good -- I encountered a bug and they fixed it immediately: hawaiki.co/autosplit.html

Later a fellow editor used the Pixel Film Studio product and I didn't like it as well.

Hey, thx for replying. Unfortunately this is exactly how I don't want to work. It makes it very difficult to be creative with the footage since you constantly need to re-frame the sectors when you use the transform tools to scale or rotate the footage.None the less, thx for helping :)

Hey Joema,

Thx so much, that's a very good recommendation. Unfortunately you can't rotate the images with that plugin but the convenience of it is much better than any other solution I have found so far. So, worst case scenario I'll stick with this which should be good enough :)
Also, when downloading the trial for hawaki autosplit from fxfactory I noticed that this plugin bundle has many more split screen plugins for trial and thus I'm now testing them out, one by one, right now to see if any of them will work better for me than Hawaiki. Will update with results after I'm done!

Do you have an image of what you want to do? It sounds like cropping and picture and picture along with key framing should work. Having said that mattes and masks can offer more impressive results. Are you using key-frames?

Hey Arc, thx for your answer.
I know how to do keyframes and all that. Have been using FCPX for a number of years now and learnt key framing the first day of ever using the program :cheer:
Have a nice week! :)

Do have an image or a video clip that demonstrates what you are trying to achieve? It sounds like what you want to do could be done with cropping and key-frames but obviously that is not the case.
