Here's my situation.
I made my whole edit for a music video in FCPX and then I exported the XML so that I can import the whole cut back into DAVINCI to do coloring. My whole edit in FCPX was using .R3D RED raw files.

After I finished coloring in DAVINCI i exported individual clips (every cut there is in the edit) back out in 4K PRORES which is .mov

Here's is where I'm stuck after.
Back in FCPX I don't know how to replace all these individual "already colored" clips back into my edit. I tried the traditional way of using the RELINK function but it didn't work because RELINK seems to want to link back the ACTUAL "WHOLE" length source file instead of what DAVINCI exported out which was individual cuts that I had in the edit.

So when I use the RELINK function it would give me an error saying the length of the clip does not match the original blablabla.

So how can I replace all the clips and cuts I did in my FCPX with the new colored individual clips exported out of DAVINCI?

Because when I color in DAVINCI using the XML exported from FCPX I just color per clip in the FCPX edit and not coloring the whole SOURCE file.

bugging me.. hope theres a work around to this.

After grading in DaVinci you must export a new "fcpxml" file from DaVinci and import that file in FCPX this new timeline will be linked to your delivery and new "individual" graded clips in what ever format you have chosen ...

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I actually tried that before but for some reason it doesn’t work. Back in FCP the XML still linked to RED RAW. Dunno why!! :(

Is there any reason why you can't just export the full timeline from Davinci and bring that back in? Presumably colour is the final stage of your process. Then it would just be grabbing the audio from the original timeline and dropping it in, or if you're getting a mix from a sound person just drop those into this new timeline.

I used to think I had to do the full 'export individual clips' thing and realized that unless there are specific shots that have certain transitions that I need to rebuild, it's not super necessary most of the time.

Exactly. I have some transitions that I did in FCPX that Davinci by default turned them all into crossfades.

Also for some weird reason some frames wont get colored even tho I colored that frame. That frame is like a 1 frame effect I did just adjusting the scale of the shot so that it has this pop effect but in Davinci it doesnt color it for some odd reasons.

I am quite surprised , you are having trouble ... this has worked for me every time since version 8 of DVR
1- import timeline generated from FCPX linked to original footage
2- color grade
3-render in delivery page individual clips unique name with handles
4- back to edit page export fcpxml : "timeline ...(resolve).fcpxml"
5- In FCPX import the new "timeline ...(resolve).fcpxml", it creates an event
6- in this new event load "timeline..." , it is color graded and of the rendered codec
7- goto a shot in "timeline..." Shift-F [match frame ] this shows the graded new clip
Whats your workflow ?
