Issue:
Anytime I apply a LUT (through a third party plugin like mlut, pixel studio lut loader, etc) the computer become completely unresponsive while background (BG) rendering starts.
The issue also happens when I run Magic Bullet Suite Denoiser or Mojo, so it appears to not be the LUT loader causing the issue.
When turn BG rendering off I can apply the LUT or Denoiser without locking up the computer.
But once I commence rendering it freezing up computer again (it is actually processing but extremely slowly).

Things I have tried:
1. Updated FCPX from 10.4.3 to 10.4.5
2. Checked and updated operating system
3. Deleted FCPX preferences
4. Restarted Computer
5. Completely removed FCPX with FS Remover and reinstalled
6. Tried different Library (that worked flawlessly in the past)
7. Created new library with only 10 clips
8. Deleted all generated Media
9. Tried using Proxy Media
10. Tried using Optimised media
11. Ran geekbench to see if CPU or GPU were not working but scored slightly higher then expected benchmark
12. Have over 150gb of diskspace free on 512gb SSD
13. Ran black magic HD speed test and my write/read speeds on the disk are perfectly normal

Those are the ones off the top of my head.

Whole system was working perfectly until 2 weeks ago or so when i first started editing H265 clips from Mavic Pro 2 and Gopro 7. So at first I figured the computer couldnt handle the H265 codec. This is why i created a new library with older footage from 1+ year ago with standard Sony A7 footage and still didnt work.

Turning off background render doesnt help my situation because when i need to export it runs into the same issue.

Computer is 2018 macbook pro touchbar with 16gb of RAM.

Many third party plugins seem to be having problems at the moment. There’s nothing you go except contact the developers and hope that can come up with a solution.

So you think that its a universal problem with all pluggins currently? Because I wasnt experiencing the issue 2 weeks ago. The only thing I may have done in the time is update the OSX.

I was also able to pause the render, restart FCPX and it would render fine but later on, during further edits, would begin the same computer lockup/freezing.
Wondering how else I could make sure its not a computer problem.

I use MotionVFX mlut and it seems to work OK. I use Neat Video not Magic Bullet, and that is extremely slow to render. I never use background rendering.

You can try Apple Diagnostics. It is not a thorough test so no errors is not a clean bill of health, but if it finds something it could be serious: support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731

You can also run Disk Utility First Aid on all drives.

You can try to narrow down what 3rd party effect is causing the problem by making a snapshot copy of the project, then use Edit>Remove Effects on portions of the timeline.

Side note: I would not suggest using DJI's H265 codec, rather use H264. My doc team tested this thoroughly on the Inspire 2 X5S and for certain scenes it produced banding and posterization. Maybe the variant in the Mavic is different but out of caution I suggest testing that thoroughly, especially on monochrome gradients such as blue sky, subtle gray gradients during an overcast day etc.

Also make sure you're running the latest version of Apple Pro Video Formats. Starting on Mojave this is updated from System Preferences>Software Update.

If you are using an external Thunderbolt or USB-C SSD, make sure you are only using the original factory cable, not some other cable. Using a different cable can cause a 10x or more performance slowdown.

According to Szymon at mVFX the problem seems to be on all effects in the current OS rendering on systems with integrated graphics.

The question then is his 2018 MBP a 13" or 15" model. All 13" models use integrated graphics whereas the 15" models use discrete graphics.

Yes I have a 13" with the integrated graphics. So this looks to be the issue at hand.
That is quite the situation to be in.
Something tells me apple isnt going to be quick to update the OS to fix this bug.
Any ideas on what to do?
Export project to Davinci and run all effects through there (never used resolve in my life)?

Looks like if I restart FCPX i sometimes can get the whole timeline to render out. Hit or miss though. Just in case anyone else is experiencing the issue.
My possible workaround for now would be to work with background render off. Finish the project, attempt to render an individual clip and see if it goes fast or slow. If it goes slow, close FCPX, restart and try one clip again. If it is rendering like it should, apply render to whole clip.
