Let me know if it works.

It does! Very easy to set up. There's only one other thing to be aware that wasn't mention in this thread yet: FCPX won't recognize the monitor in the A/V-menu if the screens are synchronized in the general os-settings. Once that checkbox is deactivated, the monitor can be chosen for av-output in FCPX...

Thanks again for pointing out that possibility. I always thought one of those AJA/Blackmagic boxes was mandatory to use A/V-output. But it seems with newer generation macs that's only the case when you need to feed your monitor via SDI... very cool!

Well, this was just for testing purposes...
I used my Sony HD-TV (Sony KDL xyz, at least 4 years old) and my Satechi USB-C Multiport Adapter. It's this one (maybe an older generation). Not sure if it'd work with an UHD monitor, don't have one here to test...
The satechi dock is fine in combination with a MacBook, not so much with an iMac. The cable is too short. If it wouldn't rest on my audio interface it would hang half way down from the back of the iMac. I'd happily switch to a thunderbolt 3 dock but for the moment I cant justify spending 300 bucks or more for one. Promise has one for 250$ but as far as I know it was never available in Europe and currently it's out of stock anyway...
