Hi Forum,

I want to work on an archived library but no clue how to recover 'deleted generated library files' in fcpx.

Once opened from archived library, although the project file seems to be intact and plays fine in the timeline, I have a warning message, when try to share the project as DVD, saying:

'The project' has offline or missing titles, effects, generators, or media. if you continue your project will be exported without these elements'.

Much appreciated for any advice.

Deleting "generated library files" does not delete media or effects, titles, etc. It only removes render files and possibly optimized, stabilization analysis and optical flow analysis files, so your issue is related to FCPX unable to locate either certain plugins you have used in the project or specific media has been relocated on your hard drive. One cause could be if your original media was on an external drive which is no longer connected to your system. You will have to scrub through your timeline or look in the related events to identify which specific components are flagged as offline. If you did move any of the project media after you finished your original project, you may be able to relink those files. Likewise, if you uninstalled any plugins (effects, titles, transitions, etc.) after you completed your project, offline media can indicate that they are no longer available on your system.

This is where the Timeline Index comes in handy.

Thank you for the detailed reply.

iMac/Sierra/FCPX 10.4/plug ins
The project and all the media was in the managed library when archived. I'd deleted generated library files during archiving to make the managed library smaller that lives in external drive.

MBPr/Sierra/FCPX 10.4/plug ins
Then I started working on archived project on MBPr (keeping the managed library in external HD) it opened fine and all the specific components were online (no missing link or offline media)

The problem is that although everything in place and both system is almost identical and house the same plug ins, it fails to regenerate the render files and stabilization analysis and optical flow analysis files. It baffles me:
Could it be that I should optimise the project files first? How do you re-render all if not through file menu modify and render all? What do I miss here?

Ben, what should I look for in the timeline index to help me diagnose the problem?

Many thanks for the support.

Give this a try...
1 - Highlight EVERYTHING in the problem timeline sequence. COPY.
2 - Create a NEW project or sequence.
3 - PASTE. Then see how things render. DO NOT duplicate project as snapshot and work from that because that merely continues using whatever cooties that are poisoning the noncomplying render.

Hi VTCmedia,

I've tried the suggested method but still no luck: I got the same warning message each time when I make an attempt to share the project.

Many thanks,

At this point, I would suggest you create a new ADMIN user account on your Mac. Login to that account and try the same project to see if it now exports without problem. If it does, you have some corruption in your user account which can be corrected with a different process. If the new user account has the same problems with sharing, then possibly there is something corrupt with some of your media. In that case, try a completely new project in a new library with a few clips of completely new media. Try this while still in the new user ADMIN account, and if it works there, then login to your regular user account and try it there also. It seems that the issue may be either with the account or with the specific media you are using.
