So Adobe is showing a "Sneaks" for a Fast Mask that is very impressive IMHO.
Been many times I have had to do basic frame to frame rotoscoping to get these results.
First, this is just a possible feature(Sneaks) and no guarantee that it will ship, but given the amount of work that went into this and the current level in the demo, this is most likely not vaporware.
There are some other apps being shown at MAX Sneaks on YouTube 2018 that look good too.
Too bad I no longer use Adobe products, but would love to see something like this in FCP.

What you think?

Happy Editing, Greg

Absolutely - for anyone whose done any rotoscoping work - who woudn't want something like this? Whether it's in an Adobe product, FCPX, or something else, this is certainly the future of "smart learning", AI, whatever you what to call it, for effects work of this sort.

Would have been nicer if they showed removing / replacing the background. But yes, it shows the levels technology is approaching.

I don't get tired to link to this presentation at WWDC18
developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2018/716/
(DevAccount required)

… which demoes 'Vision', an integral part of Mojave (=not an app, OS level!), which 'identifies' an object and, in this demo, tracks it … no roto, no bezier, no manual selection needed, just 'smart' …

Or, another smart tool, under the radar of most users: the +4000 'categories' in Photos' Search field, identifying objects by content (eg, type 'dog' and ANY photo containing a dog appears) = auto-indexing, no manual tagging needed …

… someone should combine all those existing technologies … :)

There was a thread the other day on struggles with TrackX data applied to connected clips (or so). Major reason I go to AAE for tracking. For composition tasks, tracking more often than not needs to be combined with rotoscoping, and not for astounding Hollywood effects, but just for an advanced secondary CC or a simple object removal. Resolve Studio has very good face refinement features (you can execute and preview them in the free version, but not render them). They recognize forehead, eyes, nose, lips, chin and neck. Real magic.

Just imagine FCP 10.5 got the kind of tracker demoed above ...
