This might be a noob question...

I usually do small quick turnaround self shot projects, so I have a pretty simple workflow and grade / edit in programme. However we recently got an FS5 and have done one big project on it (not using Slog or other PPs, but plan to in the future) so decided to refresh my DaVinci Resolve grading skills.

I downloaded 14 to be safe and tried to import the FCPX 1.8 XML, and an error came up saying 'DaVinci Resolve supports Final Cut Pro X XML 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5'. I downloaded 15 thinking this would solve the problem, but nope same thing. You can export XML in a previous version but this is obviously just 1.7, still ahead of what DaVinci is accepting,.

Any way around this? Can you export older XMLs from FCPX somehow?

I actually still had DaVinci 12 installed before upgrading and it wouldn't even open, so I know backtracking there isn't an option.

Hoping there is a simple workaround here, seems pretty mad the are that far behind. If it's too complicated to get around I'll probably just grade in programme but not looking forward to doing that with Slog :(

Thanks in advance!

DaVinci Resolve has supported fcpxml 1.7 from version 14.2 onward, so it's possible that you somehow downloaded an older version. Is it the app store version? It sometimes lags behind. I would download directly from their website. The weird thing is that version 15 should definitely support it, also. I just tested a fcpxml version 1.7, and I was able to import into Resolve 14.3.

I downloaded directly from the DaVinci website :S Both 14 and 15 are giving me the same error message and refusing to take the file... See the pic attached.

I am running Mac High Sierra 10.13.4 and FCPX 10.4.1

How are you exporting this xml file from FCPX? It should just be: select your sequence in the browser, then go to File->Export XML-> select Previous version (1.7), select "General" for metadata view.

Then from Resolve, go to File-Import AAF, EDL, XML... and then select that xml.
Make sure it's actually a sequence XML, not an event XML or anything else. Resolve only supports importing of a timeline. I just tried this process again with a few more timelines in different projects, and they all imported into Resolve 14.3. I haven't done any testing on version 15 because I don't want to update to that yet on this machine.
