Ah, I see, so it's there, just limited. I also see we now don't have the option to transcode video and audio in the Finder any longer with HS.

And so now another iMac Pro test...

A nine and a half minute duration video, H.264, 1.02 GB video took two minutes and fifteen seconds to export as HEVC with QuickTime Player 10.4, resulting in a 618.3 MB file size.

Using Compressor it took two minutes and 30 seconds, AND Compressor’s version came out at 525.8 MB file size.

I'm impressed...

Still there under Services, but no HEVC.

… 10sec proRes to HEVC on a 2012 MacMini took ~9 minutes … how impressive that? :silly:

All I know is that in the old days, with the old much loved fcp, things worked, ok, we did not have the same as we have now, but it worked, I could trust my laptop with upgraded parts, that was easy to do in those days...

Now we are drooling when a $15 000 machine does it job in under 2 hours...what happened?? Have we all lost it??

Is new better? Maybe not...sure you could shoot in Standard Def, and edit in Standard Def, on a really low end machine, in 32bit and it worked...Now 64bit and it is hell in a shopping cart..RED makes my laptop RAW...I mean like I am sure I heard it whimper..loudly..HEVC makes the fans spin so loud I am sure I am going to need a licence to run an aircraft test facility...

9 minutes to do anything is just stupid..Apple has lost it, sorry but doing simple tasks should not cost $15 000...

I remember in the old days making a DVD took many hours. Then a few years later making an H264 video took many hours.
The algorithms become ever more sophisticated, pushing the hardware. That has always been the case. Apple is no different in that regard.
And nobody says you have to spend $15000. I certainly can't afford that. If my current MBP takes as much time to make HEVC as my 2006 took to make H264 I'd say that is quite normal. After all, HEVC encoding is MUCH harder, just like H264 was much harder than DVD.

I only paid $7000, less than my previous Mac Pro cost.
It transcoded in two minutes, not nine.
No previous version of FCPX was ever bug free.
New version on new hardware is amazing.

Not sure where all that unfounded criticism comes from...
