Hi!
I`m new to fcpx and a couple of questions:
1. I noticed editing my first piece that some footage i`m adding to the time line is greyed, why is this? I also noticed I cannot select Modify > Analyze and fix, from the menu. (after I select the footage in the time line).

2. Is there a way to have the effects applied to clips (drag and drop the effect plugin onto the clip) to fade in and out, (like an audio fade in and out) but for the effect... ?

1. Can you post a screenshot. One reason clips may be gray is if they have multiple roles applied.

2. Only by keyframing a parameter like amount, assuming the developer has added that function.

Hi Tom,
I attached two screen shots, but they dont seem to be showing in the post...have attached again. (its my first post so not sure if moderator blocked them).
that may be it, it has roles of video and dialogue... :)

also I cant seem to choose modify/ analyze and fix... after selecting a clip, not sure why.. fcpx 10.3.4

mm even with the default fcpx effects like film grain or applying blur can they be faded in and out over a clip?

Thanks Tom, on restarting fcpx, the greyed footage has now turned to the video role colour, even though its also assigned a dialogue role (auto assignment by fcpx).

OK I will learn the effects keyframing to fade the effect in and out. Thankyou. !

I don’t know about film grain but blur can be. You can either keyframe in the impact or or using the video animation controls in the timeline. Control-V.

Where is the clip to be analyzed and fixed? Can be different reasons it’s nit available.

Thanks Tom,
control V was very helpful I was able to keyframe.

I just wanted to access the modify/analyze and fix, to apply motion stabilization, which I could do in the info panel anyway, just I saw the modify menu as an access option to this but for me its greyed out. the footage is .MTS and imported from my external thunderbolt drive, as proxy only, not optimized.

i`m sure it will resolve itself the more I use and figure out how fcpx works.

cheers,
