I haven't found any similar posts, but this is a frequent problem for me. Whenever I select 2 or more Events with a large amount of media in them (500-2000 clips), and select File / Merge Events, I get a beachball for a very long time, and eventually get a notice that my system has run out of application memory, or I have to force quit after waiting for an hour or two. It's strange that such a seemingly simple task as merging Events would overtax the RAM in this way, although I'm sure there is a lot happening behind the scenes that makes this a complex task, especially with a large amount of media.
The reason I want to merge Events rather than keep them separate is because I've applied Keywords to all the media in both Events separately and I'd like to combine my work so that the all the media can be seen under the same Keyword collections.
I'm running FCP 10.3.4 on macOS Sierra 10.12.6 on a MacBook Pro (late 2016 with Touchbar) and 16gb of RAM, and an external Thunderbolt 3 drive.
