plugins via AppStore?? 12 Oct 2017 06:29 #91074

… just reading the tea-leafs in my coffee-cup, concerning the next iteration of FinalCut, this came up in my crazy mind:

What if (major) plug-ins are distributed by the AppStore? Still allowing the 'basic' FCPX for 299, but the Team-edition or the VR-edition or the Hollywood-edition for an extra 100$?

What do you think…?

Keep off the shnaps :-)
VR-Edition... what about a '3d-Edition' or a 'curved screen-Edition'; Karrsten pass me the shnaps!

Steve Jobs was generally against that type of "edition based" software marketing. That's why there is only a single version of FCPX. However today almost anything is possible.

Good point.
But …
If Apple wants to 'include' features, a very narrow but financial potent niche is interested in - how shall Apple do that? Bloat FinalCut with buttons & min. specs 'nobody' has or wants?

Adding features thru/by AppStore would allow to keep the app lean AND offer 'pro' features for the happy few …

… just an idea.-

(and, @Chris: no Schnapps at 7am here ;) )

Apple could just allow different features of FCPX (or 'pro' if you like) to be turned on and off as and when needed.
I suppose Apple could start to 'nickle and dime' even more but I suspect that their not that stupid...
Its never to early for schnapps Karsten :-)
