Figuring out FCPX to Motion workflow 21 Aug 2017 22:06 #90038

Hi,

I'm exporting an fcpx project to Motion with lots of compound clips containing title animations, adjustment layers, and images:

I take a completed fcpx project (with animations and layering like the sample above), export out the main storyline and all clips attached to it as individual ProRes 4444 files, then manually replace all the clips in the project with those files. Then I use Xsend Motion to export the project to Motion, and use the tools in Motion to relight the scene and add shadows and depth of field, and then export the finished video.

Is there a better way to move an fcpx project like this to Motion? I need to render out anything with effects/titles before exporting or I’ll lose all my effects and titles, and I need to retain the layer structure of my fcpx project. Maybe there’s a plugin or something to individually export every clip on the timeline?

I’m on pretty tight deadlines for these videos (4-6 hours for a 4 minute monologue with lots of cartoon-style animations and infographics) and I doubt that would be enough time to properly animate everything in Motion.

Or is this too much BS and should I just do everything in Motion?

Thanks,
Oliver

Oliver - looking at it I'd be inclined to do it all in Motion.

Best wishes,

Ian.
