Hello everyone. I'm hoping someone can help. Today for some reason Final Cut Pro freezes while trying to open an external drive I have. I have used this drive for over 2 years. No problems. Last night used it, no problem. Today for some reason all I get when opening the library from within FCP is a spinning beach ball. Can anyone help or offer suggestions. Thanks. This is my first post here.

Welcome Chad to fcp.co :)

What I'm noticing here too is:
when an ext. drive spins-down ('sleep', energy saving) and I launch FCPX, it indeed gives - sometimes - a beachball...

Fix:
in Finder, have a look on such a drive = drive 'up', launch FC, all fine.

Does FCPX stay spinning the lollypop forever and you have to force quit, or does the Library eventually open?

If the spinning lollipop eventually stops and the Library opens, Karstne is correct, the drive is simply sleeping.

You say it's never done this for two years and suddenly started. I'd launch Disk Utility and run First Aid on all drives. Then go to System Preferences, to Energy, and be sure "Put Hard Drives To Sleep" is turned off.

If you problem persists, get Disk Warrior and run it to Repair all drives.

Hopefully this is not a symptom of a drive with physical issues that's about to die.
