Dear all,

it seems I was stupid enough to purchase the full PHYX Keyer Package at 200$ around 1 year ago, short before it was discontinued.

Sadly, I get occasional errors in FCPX and need to look into another solution. However, I mostly use (with great results) the Skin Tone and other effects from this package.

So I wonder which plugins are you using? I saw Hawaiki Keyer, but it seems that quite some things are missing compared to the PHYX suite.

Any advise is much appreciated, thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards
Tom

I had been using Phyx since FCP legacy days and upgraded when the X version came out.

I really think Hawaiki is the best alternative. If you feel something's missing you should put in a feature request.

Curious what you're finding missing.

Hi cseeman,

thank you very much - I was thinking of Hawaki Keyer myself, but have not yet tested it.

As far as the PHYX package goes, I am constantly using LighWrap, Edges, Despill and Skin Tone.

For the latter, it seems that the Skin Tone plugin by Cumplepop seems to be a good replacement, but for the rest, I am not sure if Hawaki Keyer can replace them (especially Light Warp).

Kind regards
Tom

Use the extensive built-in color correction to fine tune your composite, and add Light Wrap and Edge Blend for great-looking final results.

Experience exceptional control over spill suppression to tame even the toughest contamination.

Please investigate rather than make assumptions.

Thank you very much! I wonder why that video is not available on the FxFactory page? Would have made things much clearer for me.

And my apologies if you think that I was "not investigating but rather making assumptions". The opposite is the case, but for somebody who is not a native speaker it is sometimes hard to find the right answers in the first place, so asking someone who has experience usually sounds like a good idea.

Thanks again for your help and patience.

I find in many cases the developer's page has more and better information than on FXFactory. Perhaps they should make the links more prominent link with a "for more information" highlight.

One thing that makes FXFactory outstanding compared to many "app type stores" is that every plugin they sell has a free watermarked trial that has no time limit. A deep plugin like Hawaiki Keyer might take some time to test to see that it really does cover similar features to Phyx.

A long while back (and on another forum, if I recall,) Simon did a an excellent post on things he found issue with in Apple's keyer and how his keyer improved on them. It might make for an interesting post since I don't think it's been covered for some time.

It could help people who may need to understand how Hawaiki is a good replacement for Phyx Keyer.
