trying to figure out how i should be importing videos into final cut. (proxy+opt, proxy, or original)
I'm doing very basic video with some transitions, tweaking color, exposure and sharpening. nothing elaborate.
so i took the same video clip an imported them 3 ways

1st. original import with no opt or proxy checked.

2nd. proxy only

3rd. opt only

all edits the same

i exported them all as 1080 h.264

they all look about the same in quality to me. the opt version may be a touch better.
What should be the order of quality on final output?
any advantages or disadvantages on the different imports with the kind of editing I'm doing?
All editing is done on more powerful mac pro, so no laptop stuff.
thanks

How you import depends on your computer specs and the specs of the incoming media.

3.33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
32gig ram
1 T SSD
2T raid 1 OWC HD

4k import at 30p
1080 imports at 60p

I'd just import the originals, no proxy or optimized.

thanks Tom.
from an overall quality standpoint , ultimately sending video via compressor to youtube
would optimized make any difference in the final output?

thanks

No, it will not. Transcoding to another codec never "improves" what is recorded on the original video. The original is the best quality you can possibly have.
