I has a colleague who is having issues with his copy of FCPX 10.3.3. running on a MacPro with current OS.

When he asked me to look at it two things were noticed immediately.

1. There were vertical timelines I have not seen before (pictured)
2. There was a general sluggishness to the app - including a reliable delay of almost a second after pressing the space bar to play or stop,

I have had him delete his preferences and he has also disconnected his Blackmagic based external monitoring. Initially was OK but he expects it will return so in the meantime I thought I would ask here - especially to see if anyone recognises the vertical lines.

I initially thoughts it could be GFX card related but it is only affected FCPX.

Uninstall PPro, it'll work great then!
Just kidding.

Has it done this since upgrading to 10.3.3 or did it start some time after?
Try yesterday's 10.3.4 upgrade, it fixes several bugs.

I'd do these things:
Delete all render files for the Library (via File menu, not manually).
Run Disk Utility to repair all drives.
Reboot the Mac.

Also, is this stuff on his system drive, or an external secondary drive (and if so what are the specs)?

Haha...I guess?

Thanks though I'll be going through the usual trouble shooting steps (that you have outlined) with him. It's not my machine so I am unable to list his specs beyond what already have as it isn't nearby.

My reason for asking is just in case someone else has experienced the same symptoms so as to shortcut those usual steps.

Otherwise I'll update the thread when the issue is resolved to help others who experience the same symptoms in future.

I think so, if only briefly, and I didn't document what happened then. Looked like skimmer echoes. Probably this is related to GPU and drivers. I had he cheesegrater MP then with flashed GTX680 and Decklink Mini Monitor. Bought the Decklink mainly to have 1080 monitoring in Resolve, but it was also recognized (more or less, sometimes less) in FCP X. Various issues, worse FCP X performance, no AV-out or image froze. That the - cheap but hardware calibratable - monitor needed 25PSF may have added something. FCP X had updates, OSX had updates, Nvidia had, BM had (often counterproductive) FW-updates. My Windows buddy said, probably minor issues ...

The GPU had an additional HDMI out, and I thought, why, I just try to bypass the Decklink for FCP X. So by mere chance I found out that a full AV-out (no GUI elements, just video) is supported in FCP X via HDMI - but not DVI, where you can just have an extended desktop, this is also documented in FCP X's help. Did this stop all issues? I can't fully remember, but I think so.

Awesome - thanks Axel. That sounds like it could be aligning with my friend's issues. I have invited him on here to check out this thread.

Much appreciated!
