I would really like the ability to apply a custom name at the Finder level on import. Right now FCP X is limited to changing that only for it's database.

We create custom file names for every episode as part of our importing, editing, searching, and archiving workflow. The only way we can do that right now is with third party tools such as EditReady.

Being able to do this in the FCP X import window would incredibly enhance our workflow. Since we import clips created using a third party tool such as EditReady, the import feature in FCP X that allows you to know if a clip has been imported or not doesn't work for us because it wasn't imported using FCP X. Since skimming clips on a card is much faster in FCP X than both EditReady and KYNO, having this feature would allow us not to have the import window open and the browser window open, both in icon view, to quickly check/compare that everything was indeed imported.

Please remove the limitation of applying custom names to the FCP X database only.

This is an important enhancement request. You should use feedback to add your voice to those requesting this.

I did that first. Couldn't fit it all in the feedback box though. My hope is that someone on the Apple team peruses these boards as well; perhaps.

The first sentence of your original post in this thread is all Apple would need to know. I'm sure enough people have requested this so hopefully it will make it into a future update.
