random exposure shifts with effects 14 Apr 2017 06:37 #87187

Hello all,

I have some go pro video videos (1080p) and when I review them before edit they all seem normal however once I add them to FCPX and add some color board effects such as exposure and contrast, there will be random exposure changes taking place within the same clips even though I applied the effects to the whole clip.

This footage is not changing position, and I didn't make those changes. My MacBook Pro is about 5 years old with new parts (2.4GHZ, 8G ram, 500GB SSD) so I figured it was just a video card live rendering problem .
When it shows this shift, I pause, and see that the settings weren't changed and if I do make a change and hit play, it seems to correct itself for a bit before being overexposed again. Hence the thinking that its just live playback rendering.

However once shared, these exposure shifts come out in the final product!! And they are always the same amount overexposed.

What am I doing wrong?

… taking into concern your other topic (applying all sorts of effects & color-corrections 'automatically'), check your clips, you haven't applied more than one Colour Correction…

It happened to me quiet frequently, when copy/pasting Adjustments, back'n forth, one clip or the other gets a 'double treatment'… ;)

I suggest that you match back to the original GoPro clip in your media browser, and Transcode the clip to ProRes.

There have been weird exposure problems when FCPX unpacks raw GoPro files. Transcoding to ProRes should fix it.

How is that done exactly? I selected the clip and when i mouse over to File and Transcode Media it only gives me the option of selecting optimized media or proxy media.

Yes, giving a double treatment of effects also does happen to me, but i notice when because the saturation and exposure etc are blown out. But i noticed that this is actually happening before i apply any effects but once i do, they become more PRONOUNCED! So it must be when fop imports the media.
