I have a difficult key to pull on some footage of fluffy puppets on a blue screen. I can get a nice key for the edge, but it leaves spots in the inside of the key that are spoiling the effect. I want to create two keys on tow layers, one for the edge and one for the interior. So I'd like to create a basic key, and then shrink the edge in several pixels, which will create the mask for the interior, and use that on the top footage. Then I'd like to have the layer with the nice edge key below that.

Finding this really difficult - can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial?

I remember seeing a tutorial for After Effects many years ago that had a clever way of automatically creating a travelling garbage matte for this kind of purpose.

Can you post a screen shot?

Sounds like you may simply need a garbage matte. Or that you need to use the selector to include more of the blue screen. But I'd want to see a screen shot before venturing a specific solution.
