A show I edit weekly just informed me the distribution service (ExtremeReach) they've been using is not going to do closed captioning for the show as of January 1, 2018. The distribution service requires me to deliver a 1080 MXF file.

I can have Rev.com deliver me closed captioning files of pretty much any format I need. That's fine and dandy. I've used them before, use them for other shows and project, and with a .scc file I can deliver MPEG-2 transport streams as needed, closed captioned, using Compressor.

Problem is, Compressor won't do closed captioning like this for MXF files. So we're stuck. I need to find an economical way to get closed captioning in MXF files weekly. Does anyone have any suggestions for solutions?

BTW, I've tested the demo version of MacCaption (Telestream) and even with talking to their support person, could never get it to work correctly with MXF files. So that is not an option, unless you do this successfully with MacCaption regularly and can walk me through it.

Thanks for any useful information in advance.

You probably won't have success with Apple OP1a.
Have you asked whether the station accepts ttml sidecar files?

Unfortunately they won't. But they did at one time. One of the things I'm fighting with them about. They're having a change of CC policy, and it's a nightmare. Would be nice if I had the CC capabilities in Compressor and/or FCPX.

Apple MXF has no data packet.
Adobe has.
So use PPro

PPro isn't an option for this specific show. But wish Apple could catch up on this. Tim Cook talks big about their "Accessibility" stuff for the handicap, but FCPX fails totally on that front. A little hypocrisy at Apple?

I just ran into this same issue and after I exported a ProRes file from FCPX I used Adobe Media Encoder to make the OP1a file with the embeded CC.
