An Interview with respected cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, ASC, on the HDSLR revolution thanks to ThatsHot TV for this one. Well worth a watch.
Shane recently finished shooting the feature "Act of Valor," which details the covert operations of the US Navy SEALS. Directed by Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy for Bandito Brothers and Legendary Pictures, this highly anticipated film was shot primarily on the Canon 5D Mark II camera and will be the first HDSLR full-length feature released by a major studio.
He's clearly a man who knows what he's talking about. So listen up.
Most people shoot video on the 5D with the default factory settings, Shane shows us how to tweak. See the picture style Shane uses on the Canon 5D Mark II here. hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2009/12/27/picture-style-how-do-you-choose/
In the interview Shane talks about HDSLRs, sustainable ("green") filmmaking, native ISOs, reducing noise and gives his best advice for aspiring filmmakers. He also tells of his route to becoming one of Hollywood's most sought after cinematographers, going from truck driver, to grip, to gaffer, to DP and finally to producer/director/cameraman.
